Denontative and Conotative of a double page spread

Denotative Analysis
·         The image takes up most of the double page and extends to the next page.
·         There is a border around both pages
·         The colour theme stays the same, which is grey, black and white. The image also is a part of this theme as the people are wearing grey clothes.
·         The first letter of the article is a large drop down capital letter with a star image behind it.
·         There is the logo and page numbers in the bottom left and right hand corners.
·         At the very top of the magazine there is a banner saying ‘muse’ and is repeated.
·         The main title says ‘All that glitter’ in a dramatic swirly font and covers the main image of the people.

Connotative Analysis
·         The image is big and moves over to the next page to create cohesion and make the article seem together.
·         The border around both pages also helps to make it obvious it is a double page spread and not separate items.
·         A recurring colour theme helps bring the article together and look good, and the colour grey creates a grungy rock look which is what the article is about.
