Denontative and Conotative of a front cover

Denotative analysis.
·         The main colours of the magazine are red, white, black and grey. There is a main picture with 3 men stood quite seriously in the centre; this is the band ‘Muse’ placed on a grey background.
·         The main title writes ‘kerrang’ in a cracked font but it does not take up too much space of the magazine the title is also covered by images.
·         The magazine, apart from the title, uses a serif font which is a simple font all over in the cover different sizes.
·         In the bottom left is the barcode, date, the price and website in a small white box and it is rotated 180 degrees.
·         On the right hand side of the page, in the centre there is a rectangle box with a white border around with a picture and bright text inside.
·         Towards the bottom there is a strip of 5 pictures 3 in black and white and 2 in colours. At the bottom of the page there are several band names in a black small font.
·         At the top of the page there is a banner in red and says, ‘BULLET AND HORIZON DESTROY AUSTRAILIA.’
Connotative analysis.
·         The main colours of the magazine are red, white, black and grey. The background is a grungy grey this is because it fits in with the theme of the rock magazine, bright colours would not look right. The headlines are in a variety of white, black and red, the red suggest energy and it seems passionate about the music. The main title is in white because it contrasts and is eye catching.
·         The main image has a band with the lead singer ‘Matt Bellamy’ in front and in the centre, this shows him as the most respected and shows his authority.
