Current Magazine Names and connotations

Bella – means beautiful, the use of Italian makes it sound fashionable and chic.
Elle – means ‘she’ in French, clearly for the female audience.
Closer – ‘closer’ suggests they are bringing you closer to the lives of the celebrities
Smash hits – For the junior audience, ‘smash hits’ popular phrase, shows it will concentrate on the top of the chart music.
Q – Gentleman’s quarterly, name suggests just bought out every 3 months. Developed over time, ‘q’ can be unisex and can be for any age audience. Also the letter ‘q’ suggests people will queue for the magazine.

 Vogue- the actual word ‘vogue’ means current fashion, and it is a smarter and modern way of saying this.
Cosmopolitan – Means diverse culture, this shows it will give you more from different places.
NME –New Musical Express, shortened name for modernised and a smarter effect.
Take a Break – The name tells you what the magazine is for to read while in your break, it is also inviting you for a break with the magazine.
Now – ‘now’ current, and on the ball with what is going on.
Glamour – This magazine has 2 meanings so it makes the magazine more cheap looking. On one hand the title can mean Glamorous means beautiful people, glamour also mean a no clothes shoot photo shoot.

Look – This magazine suggests taking a look into the fashion and celebrity lifestyle.
FHM – modern as it is made up of letters, ‘FHM’ means for him, targeting the male audience, it can also been seen as the ‘FHM’ radio band, appealing to another audience.
