Annotated Contact Sheet of photos

This is my annotated contact sheet, I was testing and editing my own images to see which ones I could use for my final outcome.

This is my second contact sheet, it is mostly of music I have taken images of live, I plan on using these images in my contents to show there is a mixture inside my magazine.

Photo Plan

I plan to use a female as the headliner of the magazine. I have created a rock magazine so my photos will play a big part in creating the rock theme for the magazine. In my research of music magazines I find the common front covers use close up shots of the artists to show clearly who they are. For my front cover I plan to use a close up of a single female, dressed in dark contemporary clothing. She will also be wearing striking makeup, (bright red lips and dark black eyes) and jewellery to fit in with the celebrity culture.

I plan to use many pictures in my contents page as they are used as teaser photos to invite a reader into the magazine. I will use some photos I have taken of live bands, to make it similar to a real music magazine.I will use a mixture of mid shots and long shot photos to show all the different types of artists there are inside this magazine.

For my double page spread I plan on using a medium long shot which usually shows an entire person head to foot. This gives me the oppurtunity to show much more of the environment, the background.

The above title won the vote when asking my target audience their favourite of all the
titles below.I'm going to use this font and design as it is readable and suits the grunge
theme of the magazine. As this font design is unique it increases brand identity and makes
it easy to remember.

The comments from my target audience about this title was that it would not stand out
on the front cover which is what the aim of the title is. I think another problem with this title
is that it is not easily readable as the letters are faded. This is allowed if the magazine is
a highly recognised brand as I'm creating a fairly new magazine the title needs to be
easily noticed to become more popular.

The above title won the least amount of votes for audience favourite. The feedback received
of this title was thatit lacked boldness and 'wow factor'. However, I believe this title is unique
with lower case and upper case letter contrast making it fun and different. Perhaps, this font
does not suit the rock grungy style of my magazine though.

This title is bold and large which spread across the whole page, making the icon larger and
easier for the audience to recognise amongst competitors. This title was seen as too
simplictic compared with other magazine titles. The colours are not bright enough and
so it does not seem modern to suit my magazines audience age range.

This is the text I will use for my editor's letter, it is relevant to the genre of a rock magazine and has a similar content to other editor letters in music magazines.

Double Page Spread Draft

ELL HUTCHINS

After a recent collaboration with major star muse and band skream, we were eager to catch up with Ell, especially with her new album out ‘Fire With Fire’. We grabbed at the chance to hear all about the rock girl Ell Hutchins!

WHAT IS THE FIRST ALBUM ABOUT?

From the very beginning I knew it was going to be rock and I knew it would be loud. I wrote everything on the album myself, that’s why the songs are so emotional. Each song represents different times during my life, from happy to sad to crazy. The first few songs have focused mostly on themes of love and loss, solitude and regret.

YOU CLAIM TO BE INSPIRED BY MALE LEDGENDS?

(SHE LAUGHS) Of course Led Zepplin, AC/DC, The Beatles, and all the classic legends I can only  hope to achieve their success! Their music inspired me, when i was younger and at rock gigs I knew someday that would be me up there too. Not only there performances I loved, but their lyrics, they stirred up emotions in me and there songs could cheer me up in any situation.

WHAT IS YOUR FIRST MEMORY OF BRING INSPIRED BY MUSIC?

I was always obsessed with music from a very young age. I played a ridiculous amount of instruments, I even tried the banjo for a few months, it was a fun obsession. I also used to choreograph dances to all kinds of music and make my parents watch while I performed them, how embarrassing. And then my sister, cousin and I started to go to as many gigs as we could, I remember getting very dressed up for some local unheard of bands! Seeing all these performers made me need to be like them, it drove me to be where I am today.

THE SONG ‘GIVE UP’ IS QUITE CONTROVERSIAL. CAN YOU TALK ABOUT IT?

The whole mainstream industry is full of puppets. I love to be different, I just say it like it is , there‘s always going to be some people who take offence but that’s how to get heard out there , be loud !

YOUR LIFE SEEMS SO BUSY AT THE MOMENT, WHAT DOES ELL DO IN HER SPARE TIME THEN?

Sometimes my life can be very ordinary, like when I’m just watching movies with my boyfriend I really enjoy this. However, I do love partying that never gets boring. Mostly my favourite thing to do is performing live for the fans, it feels right when I’m on stage.

YOU MENTIONED YOUR BOYFRIEND, (PETE REDD LEAD SINGER OF CLASHES) DO YOU THINK THIS IS A LONG TERM THING?

(SHE BLUSHES AND LAUGHS) Well we are both just taking it slow and we are going to see where it takes us. I am really having fun with Pete, but it does have its difficulties when having a relationship in the public eye, luckily we both don’t care what people think about us that’s why we suit each other.

AS YOUR’RE BECOMING MORE FAMOUS EVERYDAY WHAT IS THE CRAZIEST THING A FAN HAS EVER DONE TO YOU?

I appreciate any fan. But the craziest fan i have had is (PAUSES) ok a man once jumped on stage while I was performing and wouldn’t let go of me, eventually security came. I wasn’t scared just flattered!

YOU LIVE IN LONDON NOW DO YOU MIS LEEDS YOUR HOMETOWN?
I miss the city, the friendly strangers and the best pubs, but most of all I miss my family and friends from Leeds! I’m always visiting so it’s not too hard. Can’t keep me away from home that easily. Leeds rocks!
DO
YOU HAVE ADVICE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BECOME POP MUSIC PRODUCERS?Go for what you’re feeling and what comes natural to you. Be original and different, this is more exciting try not to follow the crowd or the latest hot sound. Learn about music and become passionate about it too, it helped for me I can’t live without music in my life. There is a lot of talent out there you just have to stand out and never quit, don’t give up on the dream!

HOW DID YOU FIRST CONNECT WITH SKREAM AND MUSE?
I met them at award ceremonies, and they came up to me, I couldn’t believe they wanted to collaborate with me. When working with these great musicians we both work hard and have no rules or limitations. When we start to make some killer beats and thinking of lyrics, it all starts to fall into place. Once muse said to me “Not too much, but just enough”. I like that.

YOUR FIRST ALBUM DID VERY WELL CONGRATS! WHATS YOUR FAVOURITE TRACK OFF THE ALBUM AND WHY?My favourite is ‘No one Listens’ it is fast and slow a good mix, and the lyrics are really personal to what I was going through then. Also I enjoy, ‘You only live once’ it’s so upbeat and in the music video you just have to rock out and let go. But there all really good so you should totally buy it.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC TO SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER HEARD YOUR MUSIC BEFORE?Different, in a good way, there’s so much pop and R&B that it all sounds the same, mines loud and all about rock which is what Britain needs. Plus my lyrics people can actually relate to!

ND FINALLY, WHAT SHOULD FANS BE LOOKING FOWARD TOO FOR THE REST OF 2010?My new tour ! I can’t wait , it will be my first and great for any fans, also right now I’m working on brand new material, I’m thinking about trying a different style of music, but I’m positive my fans will still love it! Whatever happens, it’s gonna be wild and everyone should be a part of it too!

  • Questions are resonable- typical of a music magazine
  • I like the bits in brackets - letting you know whats going on
  • The large quotations are good
